Telemarketer Harassing Resident With 100 Hang-Up Calls Per Week

The Palos Verdes Estates household has received upwards of 100 calls per week.

A telemarketer may be annoying a Palos Verdes Estates household with multiple phone calls per day because one resident "got mad," according to a representative of the PVE Police Department.

The company claiming to be "Card Services" has called this resident eight times per day or more—and occasionally more than 100 times per week, according to Community Relations Officer Marcelle McCullough. "Often they call and then hang up as the resident says, 'Hello.'

"The residents believe (the telemarketers) are doing this because a few months ago, the resident got mad and told them what (he) thought about it," McCullough said. "The caller hung up on them!"

The number from which the company is calling is 715-375-0740, according to police.

The residents have signed up for the federal Do Not Call list and have contacted the Federal Trade Commission; however, it hasn't helped, McCullough said.

For others who have received annoying phone calls, McCullough advises contacting the Better Business Bureau or changing their telephone number.
