Palos Verdes Crime: High-End Purse, Jewelry Thefts

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Palos Verdes Estates Police Department supplied this information on crime in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Westfield and Palos Verdes Estates.

The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported the following crimes and arrests in Palos Verdes Estates for the week spanning Sept. 16-23. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station reported the following crimes and arrests in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield for the week spanning Sept. 15-21.

Palos Verdes Estates

Vehicle burglary

Sept. 16; intersection of Paseo del Campo and Palos Verdes Drive North
At some point between 2:30 and 2:47 p.m., someone pried and shattered the front passenger's window to steal a purse laying on the seat and fled.

Battery

Sept. 17; 2200 block of Via Anacapa
Someone punched another person in the nose and the head after an argument.

Brandishing weapon

Sept. 17; 1800 block of Paseo del Mar
Someone driving a 4x4 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck followed a student's vehicle and brandished a handgun before fleeing eastbound on Cloyden Road. (Full story)

Threat

Sept. 18; 1200 block of Via Coronel
Someone tried to blackmail a Palos Verdes Estates resident by calling her and telling her that if she didn't pay the caller, the caller would hurt her mother, who lives outside the U.S.

Drunken driving

Sept. 19; 600 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sept. 21; 3100 block of Palos Verdes Drive North
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the motorist on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sept. 22; 3300 block of Palos Verdes Drive North
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Sept. 22; 1300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Warrant arrests

Sept. 19; turnout in the 1300 block of Paseo del Mar
An officer investigating a parking violation arrested the motorist on an outstanding warrant.

Sept. 21; turnout in the 1300 block of Paseo del Mar
An officer investigating a parking violation arrested someone on an outstanding warrant.

Sept. 23; 2100 block of Via Olivera
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and an outstanding warrant.

Traffic offense

Sept. 20; 2400 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the motorist on suspicion of being an unlicensed driver because the driver was not carrying satisfactory identification.

Residential burglary

Sept. 21; 2400 block of Via Ramon
One or more burglars found a hidden house key in the backyard and entered the home. The burglars stole two metal racks and a car stereo from the vehicle parked in the driveway. The house was also vandalized before the burglars fled.

Medical response

Sept. 23; 1700 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Officers responded to a 911 call and upon arrival, applied an AED and performed CPR until paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived.

Rancho Palos Verdes

Deputies arrested on person on drug charges, one person on suspicion of driving under the influence, one person on suspicion of grand theft auto and one person on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

Residential burglary

Sept. 15; 28900 block of Crestridge Road
Someone entered a home and left no signs of forced entry; however, nothing was taken. Deputies believe this is related to a similar incident in the same block on Sept. 12.

Sept. 17; 6700 block of Eddinghill Drive
A burglar removed the screen from a bedroom window and stole a silver women's Dolce and Gabbana watch.

Sept. 18; 27900 block of Beechgate Drive
The screen was removed from an unlocked rear kitchen window. The burlgar stole a white gold ring, a white gold ring with a sapphire, a "Sentry" safe, $2,000 in cash, four U.S. passports and a driver's license.

Grand theft auto

Sept. 15; Terranea Way
A light blue 1967 Volkswagen Beetle with a wooden surfboard rack on its roof was stolen from the parking lot. A Hispanic man in his 30s or 40s was spotted driving the vehicle away. The man had a thick mustache and tattoos on his arms, and he was wearing a white shirt. Another man may have also helped the thief get away.

Sept. 16-17; 6500 block of Ocean Crest Drive
A silver 2009 Harley Davidson Street Glide motorcycle was stolen.

Sept. 20; 30400 block of Cartier Drive
Someone stole a 2000 white GMC Yukon and a set of house keys.

Petty theft

Sept. 15; 6500 block of Via Colinita
Someone stole a cellphone charger, $23 in coins, a Swiss Army pocket knife, a brown Tommy Hilfiger purse, a green wallet and a California driver's license from an unlocked vehicle.

Sept. 15; 29000 block of Western Avenue
Two Apple iPhones and a Coach purse were stolen from an unlocked vehicle. A "suspicious person" was seen skateboarding away from the car.

Sept. 19; Crest Road West
Someone stole a Kyocera Brio cellphone.

Sept. 19; 28900 block of Western Avenue
Someone shoplifted a pair of teal and gray Nike Air Flight Falcon tennis shoes.

Vehicle burglary

Sept. 16-17; 1600 block of Caddington Drive
A red Michael Jordan Nike backpack, keys, garage door opener and check stubs were stolen from a parked vehicle. Deputies don't know how the burglar entered the vehicle; there were no signs of forced entry.

Sept. 19; 28900 block of Western Avenue
Someone smashed the rear passenger window of a vehicle and stole a brown Guess purse containing a black Coach wallet, a debit card, miscellaneous credit cards and a California driver's license.

Sept. 19; 27500 block of Western Avenue
A burglar smashed the front passenger window and stole a Ferragamo purse, brown Louis Vuitton makeup bag, brown Louis Vuitton wallet, $250 in cash, checkbook, miscellaneous credit cards, a Kipling gray purse, California driver's license, Chanel prescription glasses, another wallet, a silver David Yurman ring and an iPhone 5.

Sept. 20; 1700 block of Westmont Street
Someone smashed the front passenger window of a vehicle and stole a Case Logic backpack, iPad, California driver's license and $40 in cash.

Grand theft

Sept. 18; 28200 block of Seamount Drive
Someone stole a Scientific Atlanta amplifier, Harmonic fibernode equipment, Scientific Atlanta line extender and three cables.

Sept. 20; 29600 block of Western Avenue
Someone stole a brown Coach purse containing a black Coach wallet with a social security card, California driver's license, $1,400 in cash, miscellaneous checks and a cellphone.

Robbery

Sept. 21; 28900 block of Western Avenue
A man stole a purple plastic tip jar from the counter of a business. When someone confronted him outside the store, the thief punched the victim in the face. The thief was last seen riding a bicycle northbound on Western Avenue. The culprit was described as a 20- to 30-year-old, 5-foot-5-inch, 160- to 180-pound man man with black hair who was wearing a black checkered long-sleeved flannel shirt, dark blue jeans and black shoes.
