Electric Bills in Rolling Hills Among State's Highest

Rolling Hills residents rank high on the California Public Utilities Commission's report on energy use and costs.

Rolling Hills residents use a lot of electricity—and they have the high bills to prove it.

According to a report from the California Public Utilities Commission released earlier this month, the gated city had the fifth-highest average monthly energy consumption in California in 2012, behind Hidden Hills, Atherton, Indian Wells and Bradbury.

Energy use peaked in September 2012, with the average household using nearly 2,000 kWh of electricity. It was lowest in May 2012, with an average of 1,250 kWh used.

Using all that electricity, however, comes with a price. Rolling Hills residents have the third-highest average monthly energy bills, according to the CPUC. The two cities ahead of Rolling Hills were Hidden Hills and Atherton.

In September 2012, residents paid $500 on average; in May of the same year, they paid about $300.
