Tonight: RPV Council to Weigh Off-Leash Dog Beach

Council members tonight will discuss the potential use of Rancho Palos Verdes Beach as an off-leash dog beach.

Rancho Palos Verdes City Council members tonight will discuss potential uses for Rancho Palos Verdes Beach, including turning the now-informal dog beach into an official off-leash beach.

The five-acre beach located below Trump National Golf Club would be the third legal dog beach in Los Angeles County, according to a city report.

In August of last year, council members directed staff to research dog beaches, including whether an off-leash beach would be best for the city. The city's Recreation and Parks Department recently asked for community feedback on the potential off-leash beach.

A 12-month pilot dog beach program could begin as early as October of this year, according to a proposed timeline included in the report. Upon its completion, the council would review the program to determine whether dog beach use should continue, according to the report.

Council members tonight will consider research and community outreach regarding the potential dog beach.
