Rancho Palos Verdes TV Producer to Stand Trial in Wife's Death

Bruce Beresford-Redman is ordered Wednesday to stand trial in the killing of his wife.

Ex-"Survivor" producer and Rancho Palos Verdes resident Bruce Beresford-Redman was ordered Wednesday to stand trial in the death of his wife at a resort in Cancun nearly two years ago.

Beresford-Redman traveled last week from California to the Mexican state of Quintana Roo without appealing who had allowed the extradition to go forward.

The suspect's wife of 11 years, Monica, owned a Brazilian restaurant in Los Angeles. Her body was found in 2010 in a sewer cistern at the Cancun resort, according to an Associated Press report published in the Daily Breeze. Beresford-Redman, his wife and children went to the resort after Monica Beresford-Redman learned her husband was cheating on her, according to the report.

In December, Beresford-Redman chose not to appeal a federal court ruling upholding his extradition, the Associated Press report said.

Evidence in the case includes statements from hotel guests who said they heard arguing and "cries of distress" coming from Beresford-Redman's room the night Monica Beresford-Redman went missing, according to the report.

If Beresford-Redman is convicted, the co-creator of "Pimp My Ride" will face a prison term of between 12 and 30 years. Mexico doesn't have the death penalty.
