Lomita Man Charged with Murder

David Viens is charged with murdering his wife today.

A Lomita man who jumped from an RPV cliff last week was charged with murder today in the suspected death of his wife, who was last seen 16 months ago.

Police suspect David Viens, 47, killed his wife, Dawn, 39. Viens her earlier this week. He also admitted to his girlfriend he had killed Dawn, sheriff's homicide Lt. Dave Coleman said.

Dawn's body has not been found, but police did find blood spatters on the walls of Viens' former home, leading them to believe she is dead.

Viens remains hospitalized at County Harbor-UCLA Medical Center from cliffs near Point Vicente Feb. 23. His arraignment date has not yet been determined.

After two days of searching and digging up the floor of Viens' restaurant, Thyme Contemporary Cafe in Lomita, where investigators believed Dawn Viens' body was hidden, investigators announced Wednesday they had found nothing.

Prosecutors are asking that Viens' bail be set at $1 million.

If convicted, Viens could face life in prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.
