My career in journalism took off and developed with intern stints at the Los Angeles Times, Washington Redskins and working as a stringer for USA Today. I have been a journalist for over a decade, mostly covering sports.  However, I have had my share of covering hard news, including tracking gang killings, reporting on education issues and writing stories on community governance and national politics. Prior to coming over to work for Patch, I was sports editor and a general news reporter for the California Crusader News, a weekly publication covering news in the South Bay. My journalism background also includes being tapped to become a sports reporter and writer for several weekly publications, including working as a senior writer for the Los Angeles Sentinel.  I began my professional career covering high school sports for the Daily Press, a daily newspaper in Newport News, Virginia. That experience led me to become a sports correspondent for the Daily Breeze the past seven years.  I am a homegrown product of Southern California, growing up in Long Beach. My passion is writing, so I try to pursue this outlet just about every chance I get. I also enjoy reading, so you can expect to see me in the library or any bookstore. Writing, books and the ocean are usually my sources for inspiration.   Beliefs At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable. This disclosure is not a license for you to inject your beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that your beliefs are on the record will cause you to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know. Politics  How would you describe your political beliefs? I am a registered Democrat, but strongly leaning toward Independent status. Religion How religious would you consider yourself?  I am a Christian.  Local Hot-Button Issues What do you think are the most important issues facing the community? Of course, the Marymount College expansion project has stirred the community.  Future land development has some residents concerned that this beautiful, peaceful city may turn into a highway of congestion.    Where do you stand on each of these issues? I'm too new to the area to have a say on anything. I'll keep my peace for now.
