Some people do not have even an ember of empathy and need more separation from others and extendedRead More treatment, maybe life long, this may or may not be a case. And, many people just do not have a sense of proportionate response. No matter how trivial the response is irrationally disproportionate.

Why is the Monroe Patch in Ct. sharing this Newtown from-another-state story? I have no interest inRead More this new Patch...

Nothing Is local on here anymore. Terrible decision to drop local editors for this junk no one caresRead More about. I used to love how we knew everything going on around here from the patch. Now nothing...horrible, horrible decision! !!! I keep hoping someone starts their own patch type of thing. I will be dropping this one.
James Property LLC April 18, 2014 at 07:21 am
And we don't get any local news. Oxford Patch did not report the burglary's in Oxford.
BBW April 18, 2014 at 08:40 am
We don't have any local news, just boring politics, rained out stories of "Sandy", PoliceRead More stories without names and details. All the usual "cub reporter" crap. Don't blame the reporters it's just an on line "rag". Not even the ability to find stories, investigate a good story, or "MODERATE" the posts and comments. Example Notice the picture of the perp? Check the ears, eyes and face. Wrestler, MMA, brawler? What's your take on the guy, and why did he leave town? Drugs? What did the witnesses say to the cops… lots of good stuff in town, but poor reporting from the "PATCH". No follow-ups either.

Way to go Judge! She deserves whatever she gets.
Sherry April 18, 2014 at 08:50 am
When someone intentionally brings harm to another person or person, their punishment for the crimeRead More should be the same and there would be less crime. Stab her to death. Save the taxpayers money, and she deserves nothing less where it's case of intentional murder. The judge was frustrated by the limits of the law.

Stealing is stealing and it costs all of us. People who eat the grapes at the grocery store withoutRead More paying for them, are stealing! Every item stolen adds up to added costs to everyone. I would have told this person to pay up first before the fine but the fine is always going to be more than the item. The fine is prevent the person from doing it again. Parking in my city overnight on the street used to be a $5 fine and so many people did. They have since raised the fines. This winter those overnight cars caused a lot of problems. They could not remove the snow with cars on the street. People don't think of the consequences before doing something wrong. Yes, people do things that are wrong but why does this it right? The 89 cents is really cheap for a soda so it makes sense that they don't allow refills for free. I have seen people using soda machines with their own cups. It ends up costing me for being honest. Eat me!
carrie April 18, 2014 at 08:06 am
This is ridiculous. Let the guy pay on site. Waste of tax payers money. Theft is wrong, but this forRead More some reason seems different as many restaurants do give free refills.

How do you not include el segundo
Penny Arévalo (Editor) April 18, 2014 at 07:35 am
El Segundo is not on the Washington Post's list. Remember, it's not measuring how many kids actuallyRead More pass the college-level tests (it does mention that, but it isn't how the schools are ranked), but how many kids take a college-level test in the first place.

Horses should not be nose to exhaust pipe on city streets. That is cruelty and the horse had hadRead More enough.
kathleen macmurray April 17, 2014 at 05:46 am
A horse and carriage ride in a park, fine. But not on busy, crowded city streets. It's cruel to theRead More horse and dangerous to everyone else. I'm with the NYC mayor on this one.

When taxes are imposed on various industries then to stay in business the prices increase on theRead More consumer! Obamacare , gas taxes, payroll taxes, tolls, the proposed soda and candy tax , your tobacco tax is 75% of what the product really costs! Commercial Property tax increases! Do you people see what's going on here? This country is being destroyed by the Democrats! It is starting to resemble The a Soviet Union! We should change the name of this country to the USSA!

robin April 16, 2014 at 11:05 am
Jo - there are many nice people that live in RHE... Unfortunately, Many are moving to hill thatRead More just don't respect the beauty or wildlife. Being a decades long resident, I've watched this place progressively - especially within the last 10 years - just disappear. More and more animals are being shot, ran over, poisoned or trapped. It's on the bottom of the pile for city officials who are more interested in building rather than saving this hill. We who appreciate the beauty must take a stand and make a change to protecting what is left. I do hope the perpetrators are caught and punished to fullest extent of the law. And like you stated, those that are harmful to animals are usually harmful to humans in some form. That's a whole other topic for me and I do have much to say about that as well.
Jo Boehm April 16, 2014 at 06:42 pm

50 grand for a car???? Think I will stick with my truck that's paid off, take the bus or ride aRead More bike. Auto makers make it difficult for the average joe to buy one of these vehicles unless one is rich and famous. I remember a brand new car for less than 10 grand.
CLaude Todoroff April 17, 2014 at 03:25 am
Are any of these models going to be called "Hindenburg"? There is a reason why Zeppelins,Read More blimps etc. use helium instead of hydrogen. So how safe are these cars? I just hope the technology isn't rushed before these vehicles are ready for prime time. With the lack of facilities that will allow you to fill up with hydrogen it could be a while before these cars will take off. Are we talking about liquid hydrogen or what? A little bit more insight into the technology would have been interesting.
CLaude Todoroff April 17, 2014 at 03:31 am
Robin, you are a youngster. I remember a new VW Beetle being advertised for $1,999 and VW had greatRead More advertisements in those days. One of my favorites was a Beetle floating in a pool and the announcer saying "The Beetle with definetly float but it won'd float indefinetly". It is rare nowadays to see clever commercials like that which is why we mute commercials or we fast forward the TIVO.

So far the only complaint I've heard is about how terrible Reagan is. I really hate to tell you butRead More the so called War on Drugs, whether titled that or not, has been going on for a long time before Reagan or Nixon ever came into office. And the jackass party hasn't been behind in enforcing it either. Oh, Eric WithHolder claims he doesn't want to prosecute marijuana offenses - what the hell is the DEA doing here? And maybe you can tell me who has produced the drugs which, along with education about safe practices, has defeated or brought the AIDS problem under control? No, it's not the labor unions of America, Timothy Leary, or little old Madame Curie in her kitchen lab.
Grumpy Old Man April 18, 2014 at 05:54 am
To clarify before someone jumps - the major drug control legislation did come about in 1970 as aRead More reaction to the widespread (both real and perceived) use and abuse of recreational drugs. But opiates were banned from importation, sale and manufacture in 1924 (other than that for medical purposes - morphine is an opiate and a pain reliever which if not administered correctly can and does result in dependency. Oh, and Allison, give your French Bull Dog a big hug and kiss from his cousin my English Bull Dog who loves Bulldogs of any stripe, color, or national origin.

I feel bad for the good people that will loose their jobs. The people who should loose their job isRead More the leaders of the company that have made decisions that have caused SCE rates to be one of the highest in the country. Not long ago SCE had one of the lowest rates. There is so much waste on new SCE programs that cost millions of dollars that do nothing except help with someone's presentation.
Allan April 16, 2014 at 06:14 am
Let's see now. LA City starts new trash program which will kill some small business and certainlyRead More result in layoffs. Now SCE going to be laying off 900 plus. Now looking too good there, SoCal.

Well, this is what they call 'progress', folks. Think about it. Not long ago they installed theRead More 'smart meters', right? Well, with 'smart meters' you don't need meter readers, do you? So this has nothing at all to do with democrats or republicans. Let's stop going there. It's about cutting costs with technology. Remember when garbage trucks were 2 man units? I do. Those were back the days when the men manually hoisted the cans and dumped the garbage in the trucks. Well, now the trashing dumping is automated and only a driver is needed. Sorry, folks. That's called 'progress', like it or not. Those layed off garbage men and meter readers need to reinvent themselves and find other work in another industry. But let's not make this political. That's so absurd.

Yes folks. Keep paying your taxes and voting. You can see how well that formula has worked for usRead More in the past. I might even toss in a tip for Uncle Sam this year and ask him to apply it to more foreign aid. I heard that Ukraine needs some bailout money.
