Driver Flips SUV on Crenshaw Boulevard

Only minor injuries were reported after the crash, according to deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station.

No major injuries were reported Friday afternoon after an SUV grazed a tractor-trailer and rolled into a sign.

The crash occurred at about 1:15 p.m. in Rolling Hills Estates, and resulted in the temporary closure of northbound Crenshaw Boulevard just north of Palos Verdes Drive North, according to Deputy Chris Knox of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station.

The Dodge Durango was heading south on Crenshaw Boulevard when it clipped the rear left tire of a tractor-trailer carrying rocks that was stopped in the No. 2 lane, Knox said. The SUV flipped, rolling multiple times for at least 30 feet before coming to rest against the sign in the center median for Palos Verdes Drive North.

Deputies at the scene indicated that the driver of the SUV was speeding, and Knox concurred. "It's hard to overturn unless you're going pretty fast," he said.

The woman driving the SUV and a passenger inside appeared to receive only minor injuries, and they were transported to the hospital, Knox said.

"They were both shaken up," Knox said, adding that they were probably going to be OK.

Another deputy at the scene said the passenger complained of feeling pain in his neck.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Knox would not speculate on what, besides speed, contributed to the crash; however, he did say that he did not believe the woman was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The road was reopened by 2:20 p.m.
