Ann Coulter: Conservative or Just Nuts?

Ann Coulter—conservative or bigot?

Excuse me, but did this leading spokesperson for conservatism actually call Hispanics a lazy underclass of nitwits who are seeking government handouts?

As Coulter's Republican party sinks into irrelevance in California, one would think its leaders would want to do something to repair the damage they have done to the two-party system by embracing the neo-fascist racism of commentators like Coulter, Limbaugh and many, many others.

The time has come for all of us (regardless of what party we are in) to send a message to the Republican party leadership and to make it loud and clear. We want a second party focused on real issues of importance and not appealing to bigotry and intolerance. If the Republicans cannot fulfill this role, then California, and indeed the nation, needs to replace them with another party.

True American conservatives are not and should not be bigots. True conservatives favor a lower level of government involvement in society and are focused on that and economic and tax issues. We are a society that simply cannot hold together if Coulter's bigotry gains force.

Coulter, Limbaugh and the like are provocateurs and who get paid by the inflammatory remark.

@ Jim,
Exactly right IMHO. It's all just show biz, and they make a damn good living out of it. I picture them sitting around with teams of writers, a la Leno or Letterman, thinking up gags.

"Society" is much greater than the grating comments of one commentator. Stop being ridiculous!

Or than again we have the "Bob Costa's" of the world who politicize Sunday night football games, to espouse the destruction of the bill of rights, Oh sorry, he blamed some other guy on the Dan Patrick show the next morning. I wonder if Mr. Costas fit in with the above commentators or does he get a free pass because they are part of the self anointed "Chosen" party of intolerance and hate. The same party that fought tooth and nail to stop black folks from voting, to ensure that people remained slaves in the south, that had the last elected KKK member of congress, that violates the second amendment at every turn, that subscribe to the we had better think for you, you aren't capable of that, the same party that controls all the elected position in the "South Bay", has a super majority in the state and still can't balance a budget. Oh sorry, that's the "Democrat" party. Sorry, I was just thinking out loud, Oh sorry, I just realized that the Democrats don't want me doing that, maybe I should go to one of their reeducation classes, they so fondly love, you know like the ones in China. .

Arthur--I agree. Sadly for Republicans, many of the commentators who identify with you are racist. The same could have been said of the Democratic party decades ago. But we kicked out the racists. You need to do the same.
Tom Long December 11, 2012 at 11:46 am
Tim,
In my lifetime one party has had a President who balanced the budget, two Presidents who had big stock market gains and also kicked out most of the racists from its ranks. It was, of course, the Democratic party. During my lifetime of 55 years, the Republicans and their leadershiphave achieved almost noting positive and have done a lot of harm.

Tom,
I noticed you didn't mention the damage to the second amendment done by your party, memory lapse perhaps?
Tom Long December 15, 2012 at 02:55 pm
Tim, Yours is a very timely comment. Let's remember what the Second Amendment actually says: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the national defense, the right to bear arms shall not be abridged." What the founding fathers had in mind was protecting state militias from dominance by a standing army. They did not have in mind the rights of individuals, including lunatics, to own automatic weapons. Indeed at the time of the amendment even rifles were not available--just muskets. The founding fathers had no notion of protecting the "rights" of the mentally ill to freely purchase weaponry to allow them to more efficiently commit mass murder. The emerging case law onb the subject has overruled centry old precedent and seems to suggest that we have activist conservatives on the bench who are meeting the needs of the gun lobby and weapons manufacturers.
