Video: Warm Temps Bring Out Yellowtail

The summer-like weather has more fish biting, including white sea bass and yellowtail.

Warm weather and flat calm seas has many fish biting lately.

The weather has some late-season white sea bass and yellowtail biting at Catalina Island. Several boats over the weekend caught white sea bass weighing up to 40 pounds in addition to a few yellowtail weighing up to 28 pounds.

The local bite also improved with a few more calico and sand bass, as well as a couple of halibut, reeled in along the coast. Live squid has been the best bait because there seems to be more and more market squid arriving on the coast and at many of the Channel Islands.

Excellent rockfishing has also been the rule from along the coast. Boats from San Clemente, Newport Beach, Long Beach, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Marina de Rey and many other areas continue to be very productive. The best fishing has been in water 240 to 300 feet deep.
