Video: Calico Bass Biting at Catalina

Anglers find calico bass at Catalina Island and more in this week's video fishing update.

This week's video has the latest on fishing in Southern California, as well as great footage from the coast, Catalina Island and Huntington Beach.

There were a few tuna taken as close as 80 miles from San Diego. Anglers are hopeful this might mean tuna catches closer to home.

"The fish are hitting on sardines and chrome and blue jigs. It is a very good idea to have some 30-pound floral-carbon line, ring hooks and a rod belt, too," said skipper Scott McDaniels of the Sea Adventure 80.

Barry Brightenburg hooked a swordfish near San Clemente Island about 4 p.m. Saturday. He fought the monster for nearly 16 hours before the hook broke and the fish gained its freedom. Capt. Jim Kingsmill from the Chaser reported the swordfish was hooked on 30-pound test line.
