Study Illustrates 'Average' SoCal Surfer

A report by the Surfrider Foundation and Surf-First finds the average age of surfers across Los Angeles County and how often they ride ocean waves.

Surfers are often stereotyped as "dumb beach bums who walk around shirtless with their shorts hanging halfway down their butts, calling everyone 'dude' and 'bro,'" according to ; however, that's not always the case.

This year, the Surfrider Foundation decided to turn a spotlight on America's surfers in an inaugural U.S. Surf Economics Report (see accompanying study under photo).

The report has been described by the foundation as "a socioeconomic and recreational profile of surfers in the U.S."
