Rivalry Heats Up as PV Boys Tennis Beats Peninsula

The PV boys tennis team beats Peninsula 11-7 Thursday.

Palos Verdes High’s boys tennis team won the first round of a rivalry against Palos Verdes Peninsula High, 11-7, on Thursday at Palos Verdes High.

The Sea Kings won eight of nine singles matches to secure the win. Senior singles players, Eric Lim, Jeff Hawke both swept their matches as the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively. Freshman Jake Douglas won two of his three doubles matches, dropping just one set to Peninsula's Shuhei Shibahara.

Peninsula was able to keep the match close with some strong play in doubles, including a sweeps of three matches by their No. 1 team of senior Joseph Chou and freshman Kent Mukai and the No. 3 team of sophomore Jake DeWitt-Hoeger and junior Nick Tong.

“I felt like we played three solid rounds of tennis to stay ahead of them and finish strong,” Palos Verdes Coach Danny Moscovici said.

The Sea Kings are ranked fifth in this week’s CIF-SS Division I rankings, while the Panthers were ranked No. 6. The Sea Kings improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in Bay League play. The Panthers are 9-3 overall and 2-1 in Bay League play. The two teams will meet again on April 26 at Peninsula.
