Two Peninsula Kids Compete in 3M Young Scientist Contest

Christopher Isozaki and Anthony Kim have a shot at winning $25K.

Two students from Rancho Palos Verdes have been selected as two of the 10 finalists to compete in the Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge for the chance to win $25,000.

Christopher Isozaki is an 8th grade student at St. John Fisher School. He was chosen as a finalist because of his innovation – a cooling system to reduce electricity used by computers, according to a press release.

Anthony Kim is a 6th grade student at Ridgecrest Intermediate School. He was chosen as a finalist because of his innovation – hydroplaning-reducing automobile tires, the release says.

As finalists, Isozaki and Kim will have the opportunity to work directly with their respective 3M Scientist mentors as part of a unique summer mentorship program, which will help them completes their final innovations. 

Both students will present their inventions during the final competition at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minn. on Oct. 13-14.
