Former Los Angeles Dodgers manager and now the Special Advisor to the Chairman, Tommy Lasorda, will deliver the commencement address today, where he'll also receive an honorary doctorate degree.
The ceremonies will celebrate the first graduation class since the addition of bachelor’s degree programs at Marymount College.
"It is a tremendous honor having Tommy Lasorda as our commencement speaker for our first B.A. graduating class," said Marymount College President Michael Brophy in a statement. "Our students, parents, faculty and staff admire Tommy Lasorda for his life’s work as well for his generous community spirit."
Lasorda has given 13 commencement addresses, according to a Dodgers statement.
"It is an honor and privilege to give the commencement address at Marymount College," Lasorda said in a statement. "I truly love helping people achieve their goals in life and I intend to tell these graduates what it will take to succeed in life."
The commencement exercises will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the college, 30800 Palos Verdes Drive East in Rancho Palos Verdes.
