'Pentendo' Homecoming Theme Applauded

Students at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School brought iconic Nintendo characters and places to life, much to the delight of fans on the Internet.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School is the "coolest school ever"—at least, according to one of the commenters on a Nintendo Life article describing the school's console-inspired homecoming theme.

Dubbed "Pentendo"—a play on PenHi and Nintendo—the theme featured large murals of characters like Zelda and Pokemon, in addition to green pipes and brick boxes from the Mario games.

"Every year our homecoming theme and decorations transforms our campus into a magical world of imagination," Principal Mitzi Cress wrote in an email to parents. "This year's efforts were simply incredible."

Nintendo Life isn't the only one to recognize the impressive theme. A student's post on Reddit's Nintendo Subreddit—a forum where members can upvote or downvote user-submitted content—gained nearly 60,000 views and more than 400 upvotes.

"My high school is known for their incredible homecoming decorations," student Joseph Cooney wrote in his post on Reddit. "This year the theme is Nintendo."

In a later comment on the Reddit post, Cooney called Pentendo "easily one of the best themes so far."

The Peninsula High School ASB chose the theme and organized the homecoming events.
