Peninsula Senior Named Coca Cola Scholar

All Coca Cola Scholars Program Finalists will receive at least a $2,500 four-year renewable scholarship.

Alex Chen, a senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School, was selected as a Coca Cola Scholars Program Finalist, according to an email from Peninsula High School Principal Mitzi Cress.

Chen was chosen out of more than 100,000 applicants and almost 2,200 semifinalists for the 25th annual scholars program. He is one of only 250 finalists who will attend Scholars Weekend in Atlanta, Ga. this weekend, according to Cress.

Fifty of the finalists will become National Scholars, who receive renewable annual scholarships of $5,000 per year for four years of undergraduate studies. The rest will be named Regional Scholars and will receive four-year renewable scholarships of $2,500 per year.
