Peninsula Receives 2nd Project Ignition Grant

Students in Palos Verdes Peninsula High's PALS PLUS leadership group organized a week-long program on safe teen driving.

Palos Verdes Peninsula High School has received a second grant from Project Ignition, a service-learning teen driver safety program.

Project Ignition named Peninsula High School as one of its top 10 high schools leading the way in the teen driver safety program, and as such, the PALS PLUS program received a $2,500 grant to expand the campaign during the 2013-2014 school year, according to a news release posted on PVPHS.com.

Criteria for the second grant included student participation, campaign results and connection to classroom learning objectives.

For the $2,000 grant the program received in January, the PALS PLUS leadership organization wrote the grant proposal entitled, "Students Lead the Way: Focused Drivers for a Safer Future," and ran a weeklong program Feb. 4-8 encouraging students to drive safely.

The PALS PLUS students will also receive $5,000 to participate in the 25th annual National Service-Learning Conference hosted by the National Youth Leadership Council in Washington D.C. April 9-12, 2014.

Project Ignition is sponsored by State Farm and administered by the NYLC.
