Peninsula High Student to be Honored by Supervisors

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is set to honor Braeden Benedict at the panel's meeting Tuesday.

A Rancho Palos Verdes student scientist will be honored downtown Tuesday by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Braeden Benedict, 14, a student "America's Top Young Scientist" in the 2011 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

He'll be honored at the panel's downtown L.A. regular meeting for work on a detection device to help spot concussions in athletes, which earned him the national science challenge win.

in July, Benedict competed against nine other finalists in early October during a live competition at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, MN.

He won $25,000 and a trip from Discovery Student Adventures for his innovation in developing a low-cost impact detection device that can make it easier to spot concussions in athletes.
