PEF May Fall Short of $3M Fundraising Goal

The Peninsula Education Foundation is trying to raise $3 million for schools in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District.

The Peninsula Education Foundation may not reach its lofty fundraising goal this year, according to a notice included in Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Principal Mitzi Cress' weekly email to parents.

"This year PEF pledged its highest goal ever to the PVPUSD: $3 million," according to the notice. "And, as the school year winds down to a close, it appears donations are short and the Foundation may not meet its fundraising goal."

The PEF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, has raised more than $23 million for Palos Verdes schools since its inception.

The organization raised its annual goal to $3 million for the 2012-2013 school year—double the $1.5 million goal for the 2008-2009 school year—after another round of budget cuts from the state.

"The Peninsula Education Foundation has raised its fundraising goal significantly in the last few years to support our schools as they try to weather the storm of government cutbacks," according to the notice to parents. "Each year we've been so grateful that our community has risen to the challenge."

In addition to the annual Skechers Pier to Pier Friendship Walk, the PEF's Main Event gala and monthly food truck fundraisers, the organization depends on individual donations from members of the community.
