Martin Griffin, the chief academic officer for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, resigned from his position Friday, effective immediately.

PVPUSD faculty and staff learned of the resignation from an email sent after 4 p.m. Friday.

"Walker Williams, superintendent of schools, will assume oversight of the curriculum and instruction and Student Services departments on an interim basis pending a decision by the Board of Education on a process for filling the vacancy," according to the announcement.

It did not give a reason for Martin's resignation.
