The PVP Democratic Club’s monthly meeting is Sunday January 15th at 2:30 pm at Pacific Unitarian Church.  The special speaker will discuss “Healthcare Reform:  The Struggle for Social and Economic Justice.”

On May 4th, 2012 the State Senate Health Committee approved the California Universal Health Care Act (Single Payer Initiative) – authored by Senator Mark Leno (D-San Francisco), which guarantees all Californians comprehensive, universal health care while containing ballooning health care costs and improving the quality of care and delivery of health services statewide.  The Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to review it and possibly vote on it during the month of January. SB 810 creates a private-public partnership to provide every California resident medical, dental, vision, hospitalization and prescription drug benefits and allows patients to choose their own doctors and hospitals.

The speaker making the case in favor of this legislation is Dr. Bill Honigman, a full time practicing emergency room physician for more than 25 years.  He knows what is needed to change how health care is provided. He also knows what the political consequences are of not doing anything different.

It is critical that voters become well informed about SB 810, the ramifications for its passage and/or its defeat, even before we have a chance to officially weigh in on the subject with our votes.

The PVP Democratic Club January meeting will be Sunday, January 15th at 2:30 pm.  The location for this meeting will be Pacific Unitarian Church located at 5621 Montemalaga Dr. in Rancho Palos Verdes.  Meetings are open to members and the public.  For more information go to www.pvpdemocrats.org.
