Trump Can Plant Christmas Tree Hedge Now, RPV Council Decides

The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council modifies a conditional use permit allowing Trump National Golf Club to plant a hedge along the western edge of its driving range.

The Trump National Golf Course can plant its New Zealand Christmas tree hedge before the tree species is approved by the California Coastal Commission, the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council decided Tuesday night.

The hedge row, which was proposed to be over 6 feet tall, along the western edge of the driving range was first approved in 2012; however, the council specified at the time that the CCC must approve the species of tree.

"We are in no way asking for the amendment to skirt Coastal Commission approval," said Lili Amini, general manager of the golf club, at Tuesday's meeting. "All we are seeking is a cleaner approval from the city that will allow us, if we choose, to plant the hedges now, while coastal permission is pending."

The council ultimately decided to modify the conditional use permit so the Trump organization could plant the trees, the Palos Verdes Peninsula News reported. Nevertheless, the golf club would have to uproot the trees if the CCC does not approve of the species.
