RPV Teen Named to State Board of Education

Rancho Palos Verdes resident Jesse Zhang is appointed to the California State Board of Education.

A 16-year-old Rancho Palos Verdes resident was appointed to the California State Board of Education, pending Senate confirmation, in early June, according to a news release from California Gov. Jerry Brown.

Jesse Zhang, a student at the California Academy of Mathematics and Science, has interned for the Port of Long Beach Department of Finance since earlier this year.

He was vice president of the CAMS Junior State of America chapter and is a member of both the National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation. Zhang also served on the CAMS student council as the sophomore class president, commissioner of athletics and commissioner of beautification.

He was a volunteer adult exhibit interpreter at the Aquarium of the Pacific from 2011-2012.

If he receives Senate confirmation, Zhang will be the student representative on the state Board of Education. He will have full voting rights.
