RPV, RHE Seek Volunteers for City Commissions

The cities of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates seek applicants for their respective planning commissions, in addition to other city commissions.

Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates are seeking to fill vacancies on their respective city commissions, the cities announced last week.

In Rancho Palos Verdes, there are two seats available on the Oversight Committee for Water Quality & Flood Protection Program and four seats on the Planning Commission.

These are unpaid volunteer positions, and appointees will take office in early 2014 and serve for four years.

The Oversight Committee for the Water Quality & Flood Protection Program is a five-member committee that meets several times between April and June each year. It makes sure that the Storm Drain User Fee is spent on replacing, refurbishing, repairing and maintaining city-owned storm drain facilities.

The Planning Commission makes decisions on private land use planning applications, reviews environmental assessments, makes decisions on view restoration permits and considers appeals of staff decisions on land use planning applications. It meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.

Applications for Rancho Palos Verdes commission appointments are due Dec. 20 at 4:30 p.m. Appointees must be residents of Rancho Palos Verdes. For more information, contact the City Clerk at cityclerk@rpv.com.

In Rolling Hills Estates, there are two vacancies on the Planning Commission, two vacancies on the Equestrian Committee and two vacancies on the Traffic and Safety Committee.

All positions are volunteer.

Members of the Planning Commission serve two-year terms and review and regulate developmental proposals, periodically update the General Plan, and review and approve planning permits. The commission meets at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers on the Monday of the week preceding the regular City Council meeting.

Meetings for the Equestrian Committee—which reviews and advises the City Council on equestrian-related issues and helps plan annual city events—are held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.

The Traffic and Safety Committee reviews and advises the City Council on traffic issues. Meetings are held on an as-needed basis.

Rolling Hills Estates residents interested in serving on the commissions should contact Deputy City Clerk Hope Nolan at hopen@ci.rolling-hills-estates.ca.us.

The application period will remain open until the positions are filled.
