PVPUSD, PVLD to Hold November Elections

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and the Palos Verdes Library District will each hold elections in November.

The Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and the Palos Verdes Library District will hold elections Nov. 5 for three seats on the Board of Education and two seats on the Board of Library Trustees, respectively.

Both districts cover the cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates, as well as unincorporated Westfield.

The filing period for candidates began Monday and will last through Aug. 9, unless an incumbent does not file for re-election. If an incumbent does not file, the deadline will be extended to Aug. 15.

To qualify for the ballot, nominees must be registered voters and live within the district boundaries.

Interested candidates can register for nomination papers online through LAVote.net. The deadline for requesting nomination papers via U.S. mail or email is midnight Aug. 1.

Both the PVPUSD and PVLD elections are held through the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's Office.

Members of the PVPUSD Board of Education are elected to four-year terms and oversee a school district that contains about 11,900 students attending two early childhood centers, 10 elementary schools, three intermediate schools, two high schools and a continuation school.

Seats held by Anthony Collatos, Malcom S. Sharp and Barbara Lucky are up for election in 2013.

PVLD Library Trustees, who serve without pay, are also elected to four-year terms. The district oversees libraries at the Peninsula Center, Malaga Cove and Miraleste, as well as The Annex.

Seats held by Diane A. Robinson and Constance B. Davenport are up for election.

Residents of Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates will also have the opportunity to vote for candidates for two seats on their respective councils in November. The filing period for candidates in those elections also began Monday.
