PVE Council Elects New Mayor

Jim Goodhart is elected mayor by his colleagues. Ellen Perkins is elected mayor pro tem.

Palos Verdes Estates has a new mayor. The city council unanimously elected now-Mayor Jim Goodhart to the position on Tuesday, the Palos Verdes Peninsula News reported. Ellen Perkins was unanimously elected mayor pro tem.

Goodhart, former Mayor George Bird and City Treasurer Joseph Sherwood were sworn in Tuesday night to begin new four-year terms.

Because nobody filed to run against the incumbents at the end of 2012, the city did not hold municipal elections; instead, the councilmen and treasurer were reappointed to their positions.

Goodhart told community members at the meeting that his priorities were to hire a new city manager (former police chief Don Dreiling is serving as the interim city manager), seismic upgrades to Palos Verdes Estates City Hall and the parking structure, disaster preparedness, open space encroachment and "the disposition of the city's properties in Bluff Cove," according to the PV News.
