The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council will once again discuss a request from the Trump Organization to rename Ocean Trails Drive in front of the Trump National Golf Club to Trump National Drive.
The request was initially submitted in 2004 and then denied by the city council in 2006, the Palos Verdes Peninsula News reported. Among other things, the city took issue with Trump advertising the club as a Los Angeles course rather than a Palos Verdes course, the newspaper reported.
Six years later though, the city council said that it may have a change of heart.
"As the Council knows, relations between the City and the Trump Organization
have improved substantially over the last few years and we now enjoy a thriving and positive rapport with them," wrote Mayor Pro Tem Brian Campbell in a memorandum presented during the Aug. 21 council meeting.
"I think that we all believe we should accommodate businesses located in our city, whenever it is reasonably possible to do so," Campbell said.
In his request to place the Ocean Trails Drive rename on the September 4 agenda, Campbell pointed to Rancho Palos Verdes' , which was allowed to rename the private road leading up to its main building.
"The renaming of this street is consistent with the overall name of the Trump
National Project and is consistent with Terranea's naming of the private street," said Campbell.
By accomodating Trump, Campbell also said that the council could "further enhance the positive relationship between this important business and the city."
The City Council will discuss Trump's request during its regular meeting at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4 in the Multipurpose Room.
