New Personnel Rules on PVE Council Agenda

The council will consider new rules for regular full and regular part-time Palos Verdes Estates employees.

Members of the Palos Verdes Estates City Council tonight will consider the approval of updated personnel rules for full and part-time employees of the city.

City staff listed "shortcomings and inconsistencies" with the 60-year-old rules, including the need to update state and federal regulations that deal with harassment and discrimination, the Fair Labor Standards Act, and the Family and Medical Leave Act.

This would mark the first time the city adopted a set of personnel rules that apply to all personnel. The city currently relies mostly on labor agreements and a general personnel handbook, among other things.

"The rules proposed to be adopted ... now reflect updated laws and current personnel practices, as well as Palos Verdes Estates’ city operations and will be in effect for all regular full-time and regular part-time employees," according to a report from City Manager Judy Smith.

Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 340 Palos Verdes Dr. West.
