'Moving Planet' Celebrated in the South Bay

More than 40 eco-friendly vendors joined South Bay governments, officials and residents Saturday morning in Manhattan Beach to help celebrate "Moving Planet," a global festival encouraging climate action.

Moving Planet South Bay featured demonstrations of eco-friendly products and services ranging from urban chicken coops to the latest bicycles.

The event also helped draw attention to the South Bay's Bike Master Plan as well as the push to make the Beach Cities more vital and healthy via Vitality City—a program that encourages residents to adopt healthy and active lifestyles.

Former Manhattan Beach mayor Steve Napolitano, one of the many speakers at the event, called the South Bay the "epicenter" of the green movement.

"A lot of other cities try to claim that but here in the South Bay, that is where it is really happening," he said.
