Marymount Wants More Time for Expansion Project

The college is asking the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council for additional time to complete two phases of its facilities expansion project.

Marymount College is asking the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council for an additional year of time to complete two of three phases of its facilities expansion project, the city announced this week.

The expansion project, which was approved by the city in 2010, is expected to take eight years to complete. The city said a time extension will not lengthen the overall project timeframe but will give additional time to complete phases one and two of the project.

Under the current timeframe, phase one of the campus' expansion is supposed to be completed by Sept. 30, and according to the city, includes "demolition of existing buildings, grading including the installation of drainage and water quality facilities, installation of utilities, the construction of new parking areas, athletic field, tennis courts and the installation of temporary modular buildings."

Phase two, which was initially planned to finish in June 2015, involves constructing a new library, maintenance facility, athletic building and outdoor pool. Also included in phase two are additions to the faculty building and student union, the city said.

The city council will hold a continued public hearing on the time extension request at its Sept. 4 meeting. If the extension is granted, one year will be added to both phase one and two of the project.
