Health Officials: Stay Out of the Ocean

Recent rains are washing bacteria and other pollutants into storm drains which run to the ocean.

County health officials today cautioned beachgoers to stay out of the ocean near discharging storm drains, creeks and rivers due to possible contaminants washed into coastal waters from the recent rainfall.

“Bacteria, debris, trash, and other public health hazards from city streets and mountain areas are likely to enter ocean waters through these outlets,” according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The advisory will be in effect until at least 7a.m. Thursday.
