Governor Brown Signs Bill Aimed at Unplanned Power Outages
Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi introduced Assembly Bill 66 which requires electrical companies to report unplanned outages.
A new bill signed by California Governor Jerry Brown on Monday aims to help bring an end to the frequent power outages in the South Bay.
Assembly Bill 66, which was introduced by South Bay Assemblyman Al Muratsuchi, is designed to help avert future unplanned power outages by authorizing the California Public Utilities Commission to direct utility companies to report the outages based on how often they occur and their duration.
"South Bay residents and businesses from Manhattan Beach to Palos Verdes have been suffering an unacceptable number of power outages in recent years,” Muratsuchi said in a statement released on Monday. “This law will increase transparency by allowing rate payers and state regulators to identify where the most frequent outages occur."
Assembly Bill 66, which was sponsored by the South Bay Cities Council of Governments, was supported by Rancho Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach and other South Bay cities as well as some area chambers of commerce.
