Former RPV Mayor Appointed to Superior Court

Douglas Stern served as mayor of Rancho Palos Verdes in 2003 and 2008.

Former Rancho Palos Verdes councilman and mayor Douglas W. Stern has been appointed to a judgeship in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Jerry Brown.

Stern, who served on the RPV City Council from 1999-2011 and was mayor in 2003 and 2008, works as an attorney in private practice at his Law Office of Douglas W. Stern since 2013. Previously, he was an attorney at Gibbs Giden Locher Turner and Senet LLP, Fidelity National Law Group, and Fulbright and Jaworski LLP, among other firms.

A Democrat, Stern graduated from the UCLA School of Law and received a bachelor's degree from UCLA.

He told the Daily Breeze that it was "an exceedingly great honor" to be appointed as a judge.

"I am obviously very thrilled that the governor has appointed me and has confidence in me," he told the newspaper. "I look forward to serving the people of the state of California."

Stern will earn $178,789 annually as a judge.
