Posted 2:08 a.m. Voters in San Bernardino County's vast Third District gave challenger James Ramos a decisive lead over incumbent Supervisor Neil Derry, who conceded Tuesday night based on early returns.

With 46.49 percent of precincts reporting, Ramos led with 46,341 votes, 59.76 percent, and Derry had 31,205 votes, 40.24 percent, according to unofficial registrar's results as of early Wednesday.

"It looks like James is going to win, and I wish him well," Derry said just after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 6 at Mill Creek Cattle Company in Mentone. "But it's not clear he's going to be able to take office."

Derry and Ramos fought a contentious campaign before voters decided who will represent the supervisorial district that includes Redlands and Loma Linda.
