Edison to Update Residents on Plans to Improve Service

The utility company tonight will talk about the status of a program to improve service in Palos Verdes Estates.

After facing residents' outrage over spotty service on the Peninsula just months ago, a Southern California Edison representative will again be in the hot seat during tonight's Palos Verdes Estates City Council meeting.

Marvin Jackmon, the utility company's regional public affairs manager, is set to update council members and residents on a program to improve electrical service reliability in the city. He'll also discuss the recent number and length of outages in the area.

Jackmon in December of last year in response to service complaints voiced by government officials and residents from cities on The Hill.

"We're frustrated with the failures over the last number of years," Palos Verdes Estates Mayor George F. Bird, Jr. said during the December meeting.

Council members asked Jackmon to visit quarterly and provide status reports.

The utility company in April when a report was released showing thousands of customers who lost power during strong November windstorms could have had electricity restored one or two days sooner if the utility had a better system for assessing damage and a stronger planning process.

Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., 340 Palos Verdes Drive West, Palos Verdes Estates.
