Craig Huey Announces Run for Office

In a new YouTube video, Craig Huey announces he will run for election in 2012, but he doesn't say for which seat.

Republican businessman Craig Huey, of Rolling Hills Estates, intends to run for office in 2012, but it's not clear which office he intends to seek.

In a video posted Tuesday on his YouTube channel, Huey announced his intention to run for in the upcoming election. He said he spent many hours with his wife, "talking to people, seeking wise council and praying about" the decision.

Huey, , outlined four options: not to run; to run for Congress in the newly created South Bay Congressional District 33; to run against incumbent Janice Hahn in Congressional District 44, which includes San Pedro; or to run for the newly created Assembly District 66 in the South Bay.

"We are going to run for an office," he said in the video. "I think it'll give you a bit of a surprise, and I think you're going to like what we're going to do."

Huey also tells viewers to "look at the screen" for his decision, but the only message shown was "Run Craig Run… Sacramento or Washington?" as of Tuesday evening.

In the July special election to replace Rep. Jane Harman in the 36th Congressional District, . The conservative Republican's performance in a strongly Democratic district, where he was the , surprised many political analysts.

Earlier this year, Los Angeles County Republican Party Secretary Nathan Mintz announced that he will be running for the seat in Assembly District 66, one of Huey's self-described options. Mintz has been endorsed by Redondo Beach Councilmen Matt Kilroy, Steve Aspel, and Steven Diels; Rolling Hills Estates Councilman Frank Zerunyan; Redondo Beach Mayor Mike Gin; Hermosa Beach Councilman Kit Bobko; and multiple other city and state officials, according to Mintz's Twitter feed.

Huey's campaign did not immediately respond to email or telephone requests for comment.
