City Urges Residents to Install Carbon Monoxide Detectors

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes alerted residents to a new state requirement that says detectors must be installed in certain homes.

The City of Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday encouraged residents to follow a new state requirement which says carbon monoxide detectors must be installed in homes with fuel burning appliances or attached garages.

As of July 1, the state requires carbon monoxide detectors in dwelling units that have fuel burning appliances or attached garages. The approved alarms should be installed at the outside of sleeping areas and on each floor of multi-story homes.

Owners of multi-family leased or rental dwellings, such as apartment buildings, have until Jan. 1, 2013 to comply with the law.
