Alleged Pot Burglar Falls Through Dispensary Roof

Jared Escando of San Pedro is suspected of trying to burglarize a medical marijuana dispensary, police say.

A man who apparently wanted to burglarize a San Pedro marijuana dispensary fell through the roof today and found himself trapped—until he was rescued by Los Angeles police officers, who then arrested him, authorities said.

Police were contacted at 3:10 a.m. by a neighbor who heard glass breaking and a man screaming for help inside the dispensary at Fourth and Gaffey streets, said Lt. John Pasquariello of the Los Angeles Police Department's Harbor Station.

The burglar had entered through the building's roof, Pasquariello said.

"Unfortunately for him, he dropped through the roof into a secured area" and found himself trapped between the front door and the clinic itself, without access to marijuana, money or an exit, he said. "His drop was a little off," the lieutenant said.

"We un-trapped him and arrested him for commercial burglary," Pasquariello said, adding that the suspect was treated by paramedics for injuries suffered during the fall.
