A driver in a BMW struck a cyclist in Rolling Hills Estates today, sending him to the hospital.

A 52-year-old man was peddling west down Palos Verdes Drive North at Rolling Hills Road around 1:30 p.m. today when he was struck from behind by a motorist traveling the same direction, said Lt. John Wolak of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The man was injured "enough to go to the hospital. He was disoriented," but he was conscious, Wolak said.

The driver was not written a citation at the scene, Wolak said.

"There was no indication the driver was impaired. It was just an accident," he said.

Deputies, however, will investigate the incident, Wolak added.

Though I do not know the details about this accident, I will say this. Since the 3 feet law was put into effect, Cyclists which have always hogged traffic, seem to almost dare the driver to hit them. They DO NOT stay within their designated bike lane and ride in the vehicle lane, especially when there are hundreds of them on the road. I drove behind a group of about 15 this week. on PV DR N and 4 of them in the vehicle lane just cruisin along not a care in the world about getting the frig.. out of the way. Now, drivers must adhere to this 3 feet distance law, so I might suggest you arrogant cyclists do the same and stay in your bike lanes that our tax dollars were spent making even more of them for you. I am all for the exercise, but some of you are just arrogant or ignorant about traffic laws. Riding thru stop signs and red lights, riding in the vehicle lanes rather than your designated bike lanes and these large groups..... Now that should be banned. I am so waiting for the day the domino affect happens and some one seriously gets hurt before a law will be put in place.

The three feet law does not take effect until Sept. 14 2014, but you are right in saying " I do not know the details about this accident "
