Driver Dies After Striking Horse (No. 3)

A horrific collision between a car and a horse on Crenshaw Boulevard in Rolling Hills Estates on Sept. 18 resulted in the death of the driver and the horse.

Ryan Y. Koyama, 69, died at Torrance Memorial Medical Center shortly after the crash. According to the preliminary investigation, Koyama was driving south on Crenshaw Boulevard when he struck the horse, which had somehow gotten loose from Seahorse Riding Club up the street.

The horse was euthanized at the scene by a local veterinarian.

Members of the equestrian community speculated that the horse had jumped the fence to escape the stables, as the facility's gates were locked, according to trainer Devon Gibson.
