A telemarketer may be annoying a Palos Verdes Estates household with multiple phone calls per day because one resident "got mad," according to a representative of the PVE Police Department.

The company claiming to be "Card Services" has called this resident eight times per day or more—and occasionally more than 100 times per week, according to Community Relations Officer Marcelle McCullough. "Often they call and then hang up as the resident says, 'Hello.'

"The residents believe (the telemarketers) are doing this because a few months ago, the resident got mad and told them what (he) thought about it," McCullough said. "The caller hung up on them!"

The number from which the company is calling is 715-375-0740, according to police.

The residents have signed up for the federal Do Not Call list and have contacted the Federal Trade Commission; however, it hasn't helped, McCullough said.

For others who have received annoying phone calls, McCullough advises contacting the Better Business Bureau or changing their telephone number.

Telemarketers call my house several times a day. Sometimes I answer and ask them if they enjoy being interrupted by annoying calls early in the morning or during dinner or after 8:30 at night. Be surprised at the responses I get. It's also funny when they ask for a particular person and I tell them no.. when will they be available.. I tell them never... OR I put the phone down and let them go thru their shpeal only hear them say HELLO????? funny when vm answers, the person will be going HELLO??? Anybody there? when I check the msgs.... IT'S VOICEMAIL YOU MORON!!!!

I was getting inundated with robo calls. I found this web site called nomorobo.com and signed up with it. It was free to use and I get almost no more robo calls a day. I tried filing complaints with the government's do not call website and it was tedious to enter all the data required and it did not stop the calls. So far this website has restored my sanity.

How I stopped repeated Telemarketers from calling my home was with the help of a Sport's Referee's Whistle !!!! The decibels on it are outstanding and it certainly must take the caller by surprise ! I have found it very effective as the calls have diminished greatly. As for that suggestion by someone saying to change your phone number, the problem with that is you never know who had the number before you and how many debtors are trying to find them. At one time the phone companies re-issued phone numbers only after months of non use, but now with all the phone numbers that are needed, the numbers are being released just as fast as they are turned in. I had my number changed in December of 2012 only to discover that the former holder of this number gave it up in November of 2012. Hardly enough time to pass before someone realizes this is no longer the person they want to reach.

I either don't answer, or I press the "on" button and then press the "off" button to stop the ringing. Telemarketing should be outlawed.

We get those annoying calls as well. Our machine picks them up and deletes them. You can ignore the calls, don't pick up and they will be removed from your voice mail. The number is from a land line in Bennett, WI. Don't answer when that number calls and also you can have it blocked by your phone company or cable, whoever your provider is. If a new number pops up, you block that one too.

Getting angry with telemarketers doesnt phase them - they live for it. I got sick and tired of them year or so ago - now I dont use my house phone other than to take messages on the answer machine. I use my cell only. If I get a message on answer machine i want to talk to, i call them on cell. Each evening I erase usually 8 -10 messages.

I just try to be clever about it. If they call about going on a trip, I tell them I am unemployed. If they call about ordering meat, I say I am Kosher or a vegetarian. I just add in a fact that makes them leave me alone. Once Jehovah Witnesses were at my door. I told them the truth that I am Jewish. They left promptly.

Just screen your calls- you own the phone- just because it rings doesn't mean that you have to answer. Every Minute that you are angry about some trivial thing like an unsolicited phone call is a minute of unhappiness for you.

Changing your phone number will not help. All our numbers are sold to the highest bidder. I am on the "do not call list" and I still get 10-15 telemarketer calls per day. Their latest ploy is to let it ring all the way to when your answering machine clicks on then hang up. This causes a loud busy signal to start up after they disconnect and keeps beeping for about 2-3 seconds everytime. These people are out of control. I had a local telemarketer call me after I signed up for do not call. I told him that is why I am on that list and his response was, "Did you a lot of good, huh?". This was the local firefighters. I responded with "The same as this call did you". Then hung up.

Some... some of those calls are actual bill collectors.

I've signed up for the no call list also, it's like everything else in Wash. DC ....nothing works there so just give up on that angle. To bad we couldn't get a website like Obammmmy's Healthcare sign up for the Robo's..it wouldn't work...We get 5 tp 7 a day now, we just let the voice mail do it's job, then they hang up before the message is completed. Again let us all thank our Great Government in DC for their fine job, they can spy and listen to all of our phone calls, but they can't trace down and shut off a robocaller......
