RPV Man Named LASD 'Volunteer of the Year'

Peter Sweers of Rancho Palos Verdes has volunteered with the Lomita Station for the past two years.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department recognized Rancho Palos Verdes resident Peter Sweers as the Lomita Station's Volunteer of the Year, according to a news release from the sheriff's station.

"For the past two years, Peter has been an integral part of Lomita Station's volunteer program," according to the news release. "He successfully developed a program that utilizes volunteers at the station's front desk operations."

Before retirement, Sweers was the director of Air Traffic Resource Management for the U.S. government in Washington DC.

LASD volunteers provide a minimum of 16 hours of their time per month to help the department with non-hazardous patrol duties.
