UPDATED: PVE Police Motorcycle Officer Collides with Vehicle

He suffered moderate injuries when a resident backed out of a driveway into his path.

A Palos Verdes Estates police officer suffered a broken jaw and other injuries when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle, police said today.

At 11:50 today, the officer was responding with lights and siren to a call of a cyclist down in the 2400 block of Palos Verdes Drive West when a resident pulled out of her driveway, colliding with the officer in the 600 block of Palos Verdes Drive West.

The officer, who was not named in a department press release, was thrown from the motorcycle and transported to the hospital with what was later to be determined moderate injuries, the press release says. He was being kept overnight for observation.

"He's expected to make a full recovery," Sgt. Steve Barber told Video News West.

The officer has been with the department for five years, he said.

He was being treated at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and will be kept overnight for observation, according to police Capt. Mark Velez.

The resident was transported to Torrance Memorial Hospital.

Palos Verdes Estates police have asked the California Highway Patrol to investigate the incident, officials said.
