Rancho Palos Verdes residents reported seeing smoke in the area of the Port of Los Angeles on Tuesday morning after a transformer caught fire at the Tra-Pac Terminal, according to various reports.
Firefighters doused the flames, and no one was hurt.
Firefighters sent to the 900 block of West Harry Bridges Boulevard—located in Wilmington east of the 110 Freeway and north of the Vincent Thomas Bridge—at 7:34 a.m. extinguished the fire in 37 minutes, said Katherine Main of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
"The fire (produced) a great deal of smoke ... visible from the east side of Rancho Palos Verdes," according to an email alert sent from RPV city staff at about 8 a.m.
The firefighters coordinated their response with personnel from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, making sure the power was turned off before pouring water and foam on the flames.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
