Palos Verdes Crime: Stolen Steaks

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Palos Verdes Estates Police Department supplied this information on crime in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Westfield and Palos Verdes Estates.

The reported the following crimes and arrests in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield for the week spanning Aug. 12 through last Saturday. The reported the following crimes and arrests in Palos Verdes Estates for the week spanning Aug. 14 through last Tuesday.

Palos Verdes Estates (Palos Verdes Estates Police Department)

Police made two arrests on warrants, one on suspicion of driving under the influence and one on suspicion of being drunk in public.

Theft
2600 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Seven silver spoons were removed from the victim's silver service at some point between May 13 and Aug. 13. The victim reported the spoons' disappearance on Aug. 14.

Warrant arrests
Aug. 16; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
A person walked into the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Aug. 18; 200 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop at about 1 a.m. The driver was cited for driving on a suspended license and the passenger was arrested on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Vandalism
Aug. 16; 600 block of Cloyden Road
Two vandalism incidents at were reported. At some point between 11 a.m. Aug. 15 and 8:20 a.m. Aug. 16, an empty vending machine was vandalized and a plastic trash can was used to break a window. Police did not say whether the incidents were related.

Burglary
800 block of Via Somonte
Someone walked into an attached residential garage through an open door and took two children's bicycles and bicycle helmets at some point between 2 p.m. Aug. 18 and 7 p.m. Aug. 19.

Driving under the influence
Aug. 19; 1500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop at about 1:45 a.m. and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Aug. 20; intersection of Palos Verdes Drive West and Via Zumaya
An officer stopped a pedestrian at about 3 a.m. and arrested the person on suspicion of being drunk in public.

Rancho Palos Verdes (Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department)

Deputies arrested on person on vehicle code violations, one person on suspicion of being drunk in public and one person on suspicion of committing domestic violence.

Residential burglary
Aug. 12; Packet Road
Someone walked into a an unlocked house on Packet Road and stole a laptop, electric guitar, guitar case and a set of car keys.

Vehicle burglaries
Aug. 17; 5900 block of Palos Verdes Drive South
Witnesses saw a man smash the front passenger-side window of a car parked in the 5900 block of Palos Verdes Drive South, steal the car's registration and an insurance card, and take off in a dark green 1996 or 1997 Ford F-150 pickup.

Aug. 18-19; 27600 block of Eldena Drive
At some point overnight, a burglar entered a car parked in the 27600 block of Eldena Drive and stole subwoofers.

Petty theft
Aug. 15; 28500 block of Western Avenue
A woman was loading groceries into her vehicle when someone grabbed her purse from the shopping cart. Inside the purse were credit cards, the woman's driver's license and $60 in cash.

Grand theft
Aug. 12-13; 7400 block of Via Lorado
The victim hosted a party with about two dozen attendees, half of which he didn't know. After the party, the victim discovered his iPad was missing, and he told police that he believes one of the party guests stole it.

No crimes or arrests reported.

Rolling Hills Estates (LASD)

One person was arrested on suspicion of petty theft.

Petty thefts
Aug. 12; 700 block of Silver Spur Road
Someone distracted a woman at the Palos Verdes Library on Silver Spur Road while another person stole her purse. Inside the purse were a driver's license, credit cards, a checkbook and $140 cash.

Aug. 16; Peninsula Center
A loss prevention officer tried to confront a man who was leaving the store with "Snorestop" medication, but the man left anyway in a light-color four-door Lexus. The loss prevention officer described the shoplifter as a balding white man in his 50s. He was between 5-feet-7-inches and 5-feet-10-inches tall and weighed about 300 pounds.

Aug. 17; Lariat Lane
A neighbor saw two men take a pair of bicycles from the front yard of a home on Lariat Lane. The men—described as 5-foot-10-inch Hispanics in their 30s, one weighing about 200 pounds and the other weighing about 160 pounds—left in a tan 2003 Chevrolet pickup.

Aug. 18; Peninsula Center
A person was arrested on suspicion of petty theft after removing two packaged steaks from a business in the Peninsula Center.

Assault with a deadly weapon
Aug. 18; Clear Vista Drive
A man—later identified as the victim's friend's boyfriend—threatened a person with a knife.

Westfield (LASD)

One person was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. No other crimes were reported.
