Palos Verdes Crime: Stolen Guns, Socks

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Palos Verdes Estates Police Department supplied this information on crime in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Westfield and Palos Verdes Estates.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station reported the following crimes and arrests in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield for the week spanning Jan. 27 through last Saturday. The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported the following crimes and arrests in Palos Verdes Estates for the week spanning Jan. 28 through last Monday.

Palos Verdes Estates

Police arrested two people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and another person on a traffic offense.

Identity theft
Jan. 29; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Someone fraudulently used a victim's debit card to buy things at various stores.

Jan. 31; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Someone tried to open a credit card account in a person's name without obtaining that person's permission. The identity theft was reported Jan. 31.

Vandalism
Intersection of Via Conejo and Via Somonte
At some point between 4:30 p.m. Jan. 28 and 8 a.m. Jan. 29, someone marked a vehicle with "an unknown dark colored substance" and fled.

Driving under the influence
Feb. 1; 500 block of Via Del Monte
An officer conducted a traffic stop at about 1:20 a.m. and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Feb. 4; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
An officer conducted a traffic stop at about 1:31 a.m. and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Theft
Feb. 2; 2100 block of Paseo del Mar
A known suspect removed firearms from a victim's residence without permission.

Vandalism/Destructive device
Feb. 2; 3600 block of Via la Selva
The victim received an anonymous email at about 7:15 p.m. stating that the victim's "political agenda must be stopped." At nearly 11 p.m. the same evening, an explosive or destructive device shattered the front windshield of the victim's car. The perpetrator fled.

Traffic offense
Feb. 4; 2900 block of Palos Verdes Drive North
Officers conducted a traffic stop at about 7:37 a.m. and arrested the driver on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle without a required ignition interlock device.

Rancho Palos Verdes

Deputies arrested one person on suspicion of attempted burglary and another on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

Grand theft
2100 block of Summerland Avenue
At some point between Dec. 17 and Jan. 28, someone stole a 9 millimeter Beretta pistol from a residence.

Jan. 30-31; 1900 block of Velez Drive
Someone stole a 2011 white four-door Mitsubishi Outlander.

Petty theft
Jan. 29; 29600 block of Western Avenue
A laptop and keys were stolen from a business in the 29600 block of Western Avenue. The thief is described as a 21-year-old, 5-foot-4-inch Asian woman weighing about 125 pounds. She had red hair and brown eyes.

Feb. 1-3; 7000 block of Grove Spring Drive
Someone stole two mens Omega watches from an unlocked vehicle.

Burglary
Jan. 30; 30300 block of Hawthorne Boulevard
Someone shattered the front passenger window of a vehicle and stole a purse containing a passport, $100 in cash, a green card and a necklace.

Feb. 1-2; 7200 block of Berry Hill Drive
Someone forced his way through a residence's front door and stole an Apple desktop computer and miscellaneous jewelry.

Feb. 2; 5500 block of Crestridge Road
Someone was arrested on suspicion of burglary. Police said the suspect used a key to enter the front door; however, nothing was taken.

Feb. 1-2; 2100 block of Rocking Horse Drive
Someone used a device, possibly one slipped into the lower window trim, to open a vehicle and steal a suitcase, an HP laptop, miscellaneous jewelry, $600 and women's clothing.

Rolling Hills

No crimes or arrests were reported.

Rolling Hills Estates

One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence; one  person was arrested on suspicion of petty theft; and one person was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

Shoplifting
Jan. 30; Peninsula Center
Deputies arrested a person on suspicion of stealing various food items.

Jan. 31; 550 block of Deep Valley Drive
A shoplifter described as a 30- to 35-year-old black woman weighing 155 pounds stole multiple pairs of socks from a store in the Promenade on the Peninsula.

Jan. 31; 550 block of Deep Valley Drive
Two people stole a sweater from J-Crew. One of the shoplifters is described as a 30- to 35-year-old, 5-feet-9-inch black woman weighing about 170 pounds, while the other is a 30- to 35-year-old, 5-foot-8-inch black woman weighing about 120 pounds.

Westfield

No crimes or arrests were reported.
