Palos Verdes Crime: Stealing the Silverware

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Palos Verdes Estates Police Department supplied this information on crime in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Westfield and Palos Verdes Estates.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station reported the following crimes and arrests in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield for the week spanning April 14-21. The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported the following crimes and arrests in Palos Verdes Estates for the week spanning April 15 through last Monday.

Palos Verdes Estates

Theft

April 15; Intersection of Paseo Del Campo and Palos Verdes Drive North
Someone pried the window of a vehicle until it broke and took a purse from the car before fleeing the scene.

April 15; 1500 block of Espinsosa Circle
At some point after Nov. 26, 2012, someone entered a residence by unknown means and removed a set of sterling silver place settings from the home.

April 20; 2400 block of Via Sonoma
Between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., an unknown person gained access to an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway and took two laptops and two checkbooks before fleeing the scene undetected.

April 20; 2400 block of Via Sonoma
Between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., someone took an iPod and pepper spray from an unlocked vehicle parked in the victim's driveway.

Residential Burglary

April 15, 12:15 p.m.; 2100 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Someone entered a residence through an unlocked front door and proceeded to search the house for valuables. The unknown person then took unspecified items from the home.

Warrant Arrest

April 17, 3:26 a.m.; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant and the passenger on suspicion of being under the influence of a drug.

April 17, 1:41 p.m.; 2700 block of Paseo Del Mar
While investigating two suspicious subjects, officers arrested one on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

April 19, 8:18 a.m.; 1700 block of Dalton Road
While investigating an unoccupied vehicle with expired registration, the officer arrested the owner of the vehicle on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

April 20, 1:47 a.m.; 1700 block of Punta Place
Officers arrested the driver of an illegally parked vehicle on two outstanding warrants.

Resisting a Peace Officer/Drug Paraphernalia

April 17, 7:40 p.m.; 1300 block of Paseo Del Mar
While investigating a suspicous person, officers arrested the individual for allegedly resisting a peace officer and on suspicion of drug paraphernalia.

Possession of Stolen Property

April 18, 8:33 a.m.; 800 block of Paseo Del Mar
While responding to a disabled vehicle call, an officer arrested the driver on two outstanding warrants, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and for alleged possession of stolen property taken during a burglary in Redondo Beach.

Possession of a Controlled Substance

April 18, 2:30 p.m.; 1300 block of Paseo Del Mar
During an investigation of a suspicious vehicle, officers arrested a passenger on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of methamphetamine.

April 19, 1:40 a.m.; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving with a suspended license and possession of methamphetamine. The passenger of the vehicle was also arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Traffic Offense

April 19, 1:01 p.m.; 1500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

April 21, 9:30 a.m.; 2800 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
While conducting a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver for allegedly driving without a license and failure to present satisfactory evidence of identity.

Vandalism

April 20, 1:00 p.m.; 2600 block of Via Tejon
A named suspect allegedly entered the parkland and climbed up a power pole to spray paint on an electrical box before fleeing in an unknown direction.

Driving Under the Influence

April 21, 10:18 p.m.; 500 block of Via Del Monte
During a traffic stop, an officer arrested the driver of the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Rancho Palos Verdes

Two people were arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct, and one arrest was made on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

Vehicle Burglary
April 14-15; 1900 block of First Street
A handheld Panasonic DVD player with screen was stolen from a car at some point between 3:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. The passenger door was damaged.

April 14-15; 30400 block of Via Rivera
At some point between 3 p.m. and 4 a.m., someone gained entry to a parked vehicle. Nothing was taken.

April 16-18; 30500 block of Santa Luna Drive
The windows were opened several inches of a locked vehicle parked in a driveway. An iPad 2, a Canon camera, checkbook and a child's backpack were stolen.

April 19; 1700 block of Westmont
The rear passenger window was smashed at some point in the 9 a.m. hour. A purse and a wallet containing miscellaneous credit cards were stolen.

Residential Burglary
April 15; 30300 block of Kingsridge Drive
The rear door of a residence was discovered open. It's not known if anything was taken.

April 15; 29900 block of Knoll View Drive
The house's sliding glass door was pried open. Deputies don't know if anything was taken.

April 15; 26500 block of Deepbrook Drive
The rear sliding glass door was pried open, and a Dell laptop was stolen.

April 15; 4900 block of Blackhorse Road
The upstairs window screen was removed from a house. No loss was reported, but the culprit was described as a 20- to 30-year-old, six-foot-tall black man with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark heavy plaid jacket.

April 15; 26500 block of Hawkhurst Drive
A jewelry box containing miscellaneous jewelry was stolen from the house. A small window was opened, and the window screen was partially removed and bent. The culprit may have fled in a blue four-door vehicle.

April 15-16; 4800 block of Blackhorse Road
A Toshiba Dyna-book laptop was stolen after a burglar pried open the rear patio sliding door.

April 16; 6600 block of Edding Hill Drive
A bedroom window was shattered, and burglars made off with a Carter wedding ring, a Tiffany necklace and miscellaneous other jewelry.

April 14-17; 26700 block of Nokomis Road
Investigators discovered pry marks on the rear sliding door of a home after a jewelry box was stolen.

April 18; 31100 block of Marne Drive
Miscellaneous jewelry was stolen. The victim described the burglar as a 30- to 35-year-old white or Hispanic man with dark brown, shoulder-length, curly hair. The burglar was spotted jumping into a dull orange vehicle with a boxy rear end.

Petty Theft - Vehicle
Jan. 7 - April 15; 1900 block of Upland Street
A seatbelt cutter, folder, car insurance card and DMV registration were stolen .

April 16-17; 1900 block of Redondela Drive
A red and black Jansport backpack, identification cards, work gloves, a blue sweatshirt, a Sause Bro work knife, Dior and Burberry sunglasses, $22 and a work tool rod with hook were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway.

April 16-17; 1900 block of Peninsula Verde
A Garmin GPS was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway.

April 17-18; 1900 block of Redondela Drive
Miscellaneous gas credit cards and gift cards were stolen from an unlocked vehicle. This item was also filed under identity theft.

April 17-18; 2700 block of Calle Aventura
Miscellaneous vehicle papers were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

April 17-18; 1900 block of Redondela Drive
A Magellan GPS was stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway. This was the second incident to occur at this location; however, nothing was stolen the first time.

April 17-18; 2700 block of Calle Aventura
A pair of sunglasses was stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

A Coach wallet, driver's license, $50, Rayban sunglasses and a pair of sandals were stolen from an unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway.

April 20-21; 29000 block of Indian Valley Road
An HP laptop, Coach briefcase and a checkbook were stolen from an unlocked vehicle.

Grand theft
April 16; 28000 block of Montereina Drive
An Apple iPhone 4S and case were stolen. Two suspects were arrested.

Petty Theft - Shoplifting
April 17, 7:12 p.m.; 29100 block of Western Avenue
Two packs of T-shirts were stolen from an open business. The first culprit was described as a 21-year-old, 5-foot-8-inch Hispanic male weighing about 155 pounds. He had wavy brown hair and brown eyes, and he was wearing a black baseball cap. The second culprit was described as an 18-year-old, 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound Hispanic man with brown hair and hazel eyes.

Assault With a Deadly Weapon
April 18; 5:40 p.m.; 30700 block of Tarapaca Road.
An assault with a deadly weapon was reported. No other details were provided.

No arrests occurred during this period.

April 16-19; Portuguese Bend Road
A chain link fence was cut.

Westfield

No arrests occurred during this period.

Residential Burglary
April 17; 26600 block of Academy Drive
A broken sliding glass door was discovered pried open. Two guitars, a Toshiba laptop and miscellaneous cables were stolen.

Rolling Hills Estates

One person was arrested in connection with two commercial burglaries and an attempted petty theft.

April 14, 7 a.m.; Peninsula Center
A person—who was later arrested—tried to steal 24 ounces of beer.

Commercial Burglary
April 14, 7:20 a.m.; 800 block of Silver Spur Road
Someone stole three packs of beer. Police later arrested a suspect.

April 15, 1:27 p.m.; 800 block of Silver Spur Road
Someone stole a sandwich. Police later arrested a suspect.

Residential Burglary
April 15, 9:53 a.m.; Latigo Lane
Someone pried open a patio sliding door, shattered the laundry door, pried open a patio window and removed the screen, and pried open another sliding glass door. It was not known if anything was stolen.

Vehicle Burglary
April 18; 500 block of Deep Valley Drive
The passenger side window of a vehicle was smashed, and an Apple iPad 3, miscellaneous credit cards and a wallet were stolen.
