Palos Verdes Crime: Arson at PV High

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and Palos Verdes Estates Police Department supplied this information on crime in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Rolling Hills, Westfield and Palos Verdes Estates.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lomita Station reported the following crimes and arrests in Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates and Westfield for the week spanning March 10 through Saturday. The Palos Verdes Estates Police Department reported the following crimes and arrests in Palos Verdes Estates for the week spanning March 12 through last Monday.

Palos Verdes Estates

Three people were arrested on outstanding warrants, one person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, one on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and another on suspicion of possession of heroin and methamphetamine.

March 18, 8:02 a.m.; 600 block of Cloyden Road (Palos Verdes High School)
An unknown person entered a secured classroom at Palos Verdes High School and set fire to paper posters and a plastic number sign that was affixed to the classroom wall.

March 14-15; 1100 block of Nogales
Sometime between 3 p.m. on March 14 and 8 a.m. on March 15, an unknown person smashed six classroom windows—possibly with a skateboard—at Montemalaga Elementary School and fled in an unknown direction.

Warrant Arrest

March 12, 5:25 a.m.; Manhattan Beach
Officers were sent to Manhattan Beach to make a misdemeanor warrant pickup.

March 13, 8:49 a.m.; Long Beach
Palos Verdes Estates officers went to Long Beach to pick up a man with an outstanding warrant.

Traffic Offense

March 12, 9:18 a.m.; 1500 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver on suspicion of driving without a license with prior convictions and an outstanding warrant.

March 13, 5:30 p.m.; 1600 block of Granvia Altamira
A driver of a vehicle was issued a citation for driving without a license.

Vehicle Burglary

March 12; 1400 block of Lower Paseo La Cresta
Sometime between 9 a.m. and 11:20 a.m., someone used an object to pry open and smash the front passenger window of a vehicle and took three purses containing credit cards, currency and ID cards.

March 15; Intersection of Via Fernandez and Montemalaga Plaza
An unknown person or persons broke the rear drivers side window of a parked vehicle and took a purse, wallet with currency inside, credit cards, a cell phone and drivers license. The victim said the car was never more than 200 feet from him/her.

Identity Theft

March 13; 300 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
Someone fraudulently used a victim's credit card to make several online purchases.

Drugs

March 13, 9:45 p.m.; 1300 block of Paseo del Mar
While conducting a security check officers contacted the occupants of a parked vehicle and arrested the passenger on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia and the driver on suspicion of possession of heroin and methamphetamine.

Residential Burglary

March 14; 600 block of Via Del Monte
Sometime between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., unknown person or persons pried open a bathroom window of a home, entered the residence and proceeded to take property before leaving through an office door.

March 15-17; 1400 block of Chelsea Road
Someone forced open a laundry room window of a residence and took property from the home before fleeing in an unknown direction

Vehicle Theft

March 13-14; 1200 block of Via Landeta
An unknown person took a victim's locked vehicle and drove off in an unknown direction.

Warrant Arrest

March 7, 8:50 a.m.; 1500 block of Via Zurita
Officers made contact with a person and arrested him on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Driving Under the Influence

March 6, 1:00 a.m.; 3100 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

March 6, 11:00 p.m.; 200 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

March 8, 1:45 p.m.; Intersection of Via Arroyo and Via Almar
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

March 9, 6:00 a.m.; 600 block of Via Del Monte
Officers responded to a traffic collision in which a vehicle collided with a tree. The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the hospital due to neck pain.

Drugs

March 8, 11:55 p.m.; 2200 block of Via Rosa
During a security check, officers contacted the occupants of a parked vehicle and arrested the passenger on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Driving Under the Influence

March 16, 1:00 a.m.; 1100 block of Palos Verdes Drive West
During a traffic stop, officers arrested the driver of the vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.  

Rancho Palos Verdes

One person was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.

Residential Robbery

March 12, 8:00 p.m.; 4200 block of Miraleste Drive
Two men entered a residence through the front door and allegedly robbed $280 from the home and its occupants. An investigation is ongoing; police did not provide any further information.

Attempted Robbery

March 11; 28600 block of Montereina Drive
Someone broke the bathroom window of a home but did not take anything.

Grand Theft

March 10-12; 6500 block of Via Lorenzo
An unknown person or persons took a gold anniversary ring with diamonds, gold engagement ring and a gold wedding band from a home.

March 16; 1900 block of Jaybrook Drive
Someone stole the catalytic converter from a Toyota 4Runner vehicle.

Petty Theft

March 11-12, 30800 block of Via Rivera
Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and took an iPhone adaptor, garage door remote and clothing with tags from Target and Gap.

March 9-10; Terranea Way
An unknown person entered an unlocked vehicle and took $2 in coins, Oakley sunglasses, and a multi-tool pocket knife.

March 11, 2:30 p.m.; 28000 block of Montereina Drive
Someone took a wallet with blue and white stripes, $4 in cash, a school I.D. and a library card.

Vehicle Burglary

March 15, 30300 block of Hawthorne Boulevard
An unknown person or persons smashed the passenger window of a vehicle and took a bag containing baby items.

Rolling Hills Estates

One person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Petty Theft

March 13; Peninsula Center
Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and took a wallet, credit cards and a medical license card.

March 13-14; Roanwood Drive
An unknown person took a Sirius Onyx screen and two pairs of sunglasses from an unlocked vehicle.

Vehicle Burglary

March 13; 500 block of Deep Valley Drive
Someone smashed the front passenger window of a vehicle and took a Kate Spade leather bag, Coach wallet, iPhone 4S and credit cards.

Rolling Hills

No crimes or arrests occurred during this period.

Westfield

No crimes or arrests occurred during this period.
